Beakus freshens up The Guardian's excellent agony aunt series

Date

It’s been an impressive fortnight at Beakus HQ with great animations coming thick and fast from their team of directors. Last week we lapped up their exploration of the origins of the Magna Carta for the British Museum, in which Gergely Wootsch’s drawings were expertly combined with Terry Jones’ distinctive voice.

This week we’re focussing on their reinvigoration of agony aunt Philippa Perry’s regular column on The Guardian. In it the psychotherapist fields phonecalls from diverse callers including porn addicts and spurned lovers, dishing out sage advice about how to get their lives back on track. In this instance Sophie Koko Gate took the story of a student struggling to get their foot in the door of employment and spun it into a beautifully textured short where animation, live action and an impeccable sense of pace and timing are used to glorious effect.
